D.I.Y. Corner - Oooh, baby, baby!

Sorry, the musician in me just couldn't resist!

Here's an easy recipe for natural homemade baby wipes for all of you expectant parents!  We were inspired by some friends of ours who are expecting baby number 2, and who also recently signed up for a wholesale membership through us.   This is so unbelievably easy, simple and fun and I promise, you'll never want to bother with those expensive, harsh chemical laden wipes from the store ever again.  So let's get cracking!

All Natural Not-Just-For-Baby Wipes
What You Need:
1 roll premium paper towels (must be premium or they will tear when you use them)
1 cup warm water (preferably distilled)
1 tablespoon of Fractionated Coconut Oil
6 drops Lavender essential oil
6 drops Melaleuca essential oil
½ tsp Dr. Bronner’s liquid castile soap
10 drops GSE (grape seed extract) or 2 capsules of Vitamin E - acts as a natural preservative
An airtight GLASS storage container (recycled CLEANED salsa jar - 24oz or a larger for a full paper towel roll.

Directions:
  1. Unroll about 18 paper towels.  Cut strip in half (down the middle of the sheet).  Alternatively you can cut the paper towel roll in half with a really sharp knife . Use half the roll now, and save for the other half for later.
  2. Roll the paper towel strip around the cylinder of a turkey baster or use a 2” dowel.  If you’ve cut the roll in half try to take the middle carton tube out of the roll before you get them wet.  I have found that putting the water in and trying to take the tube out after was a disaster.  The paper towels I buy have the carton glued in so it wasn’t fun
  3. Into an airtight container, combine water, Fractionated Coconut Oil, essential oils, soap, and GSE/vitamin E oil.  Mix well.
  4. Add your paper towels but do not put all the way down.  Try to rotate the container in a circular motion to remix the water and oil as much as possible.  When you have a good cyclone then put the paper towels the rest of the way in.  Place lid on top.
  5. Turn upside down for 5-10 min to ensure that all of your towels are moist.
  6. Pull the wipes from the center when you are ready to use.

Our recipe is based off of the one posted on one of our our favorite Essential Oil blogs.  I'd also like to acknowledge and thank Ange at hookedonoil.com and Katie at wellnessmama.com.  We borrowed a few ideas from theirs that we think makes an even better baby wipe:  notably, less wet, and includes a natural preservative for longer "shelf life".   We  encourage you to check theirs out.
